have looked him up on one of my infrequent trips to the west. Edwards son, George, made an enviable reputation as a Ferry Command pilot during the Second World War, and safely flew a great many aircraft from Canada to Britain for use by the Allies during the war. George is now an executive with Air Canada. I met him for the first time in March, 1968. He is married and lives with his family in suburban Baie dUrfe, Quebec.

Helen

Helen lived for many years with her brother Robert on the family farm at Elmside. Her husband, William Knox, disappeared mysteriously shortly after their marriage, following his departure for California to set up a new home.

Robert

I remember Robert or Bob Lothian, when I spent my vacations on my Uncle Harpers farm at Elmside. Robert, a bachelor, inherited the George Lothian farm, and as far as I know, lived there throughout his lifetime.

Eliza

I never met Eliza. She married John Bayliss and lived for many years in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. A son, Joseph Bayliss, was a local historian and wrote an excellent history of St. Josephs Island in the St. Marys River. I have known Mrs. I~axne Bayliss Leishman for many years, and have carried on correspondence with her for some time. She has a sister, Nrs. Violet Vail, formerly a judge, who lives in Sault Ste. Marie.

Susannah

Named after her mother, Susannah Hudson Lothian, Aunt ttgusiett McDonald came to
Ottawa in the late l9~Os. After the death of her sister Maria, she lived alone
for some years, and later roomed with my mother, Margaret Lothian, at 206 James
Street, Ottawa. Here she died on March 16, 1938.

William (Dr.)

I met Dr. William Lothian (father of Mrs. Frances Keeth) only once. He was visiting his sisters Maria and Susannah in Ottawa around 1930. However, I had known him quite well, for he and my father corresponded while we lived in Bryson. I used to see letters postmarked Joplin Mo. and wondered what kind of city that was. Later t developed a continuing correspondence with his daughter Frances in Leawood, Kansas, whom I have yet to meet. Frances is the real historian of the George Lothian family, and also has amassed a great deal of information on the William Lothian family as well.

Adam

Adam Lothian for years followed the profession of photographer. I remember meeting him at Norway Bay in the 1920s, on the occasion of his last visit to the area of his birth. For some years he conducted a photographers business at Sudbury, Ontario, and took many pictures of the Lothians during visits to the old farm. The picture of the George Lothian home referred to earlier, was made by him. He died in Stockton, California, in 1928.
